[magazine] translation of Q&A in Lisa Magazine

thanks to pokomamy for the translation. love ya! there's total of 11 questions.

i re-post my fav photo ^^

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1: From girl band, Chakra, to solo artist, how much effort do you have to spend?
A: I need to thank my fans. Without them, I wouldn’t be here today. What I need to do is repay their loves. Therefore, What I’ve done is not hard at all. I must try my best so that it’s worth their loves.

2: You won “The Best Dancer Award 2008”. You must love dancing.
A: I love to dance. When I was in grade 9-10, I always practiced dancing with my friends after school. Practicing helped me get the rhythm. Although I like to sing, I also like to dance. Sometimes it depends on the atmosphere. If I am in the fun atmosphere, I want to keep dancing and dancing. If I am in the quiet atmosphere, I would prefer singing. If I have to pick one, it will be very difficult. It’s like asking me to choose to stay with either my father or my mother. I like both and feel like I can’t live with only either one.

3: Most of your hit songs are for dancing except the first album, which is ballad.
A: Personally, I like ballad. Therefore, the first album is really me. When going to karaoke, I only like to sing slow, emotional songs and won’t sing my own songs because I would feel embarrassed. When resting at home, I like to sing ballad because it can better express deep feelings. However, the audience probably prefers dancing song.

4: How about the song that was on UK chart? How special is it for you?
A: “R2Song” is a Korean word mean confused. The lyric of the song talked about a guy friend whom my feeling towards him suddenly changed from friendship to love. It made me confused and surprised whether this feeling was love or something else. When we released this song in the UK, we adjust the single to remix, faster tempo and more lively than the original. We made it suitable for dancing in clubs and thought that British would like it. I feel very impressed because British people don’t know me and I’ve never had a chance to work in the UK. But now they know the name “Hwangbo”, because my song was No. 1 on their chart. When they listen to the song, they will know that I’m from Korea. Making them more aware of Korea and Koreans song makes me very happy.

5: I’ve heard that you are a part of the charity project in Korea.
A: Korea Compassion is the project that helps individual kid by donating a monthly payment of 15,000 won. It’s like adopting them. The kids can use the money to buy food, clothes, or pay for tuition fees. It’s a very good project. Before I joined compassion, I wanted to do charity work but didn’t know how to start. So, when somebody introduced this project to me, I was very interested and also had a chance to write the letters to the kids. I feel like the poor not only needs money, but also love. They need someone by their sides. When I have time, I want to do something for them too.

6: As a sexy superstar, what is your beauty secret?
A: The best way for me is exercising. When I do the shooting or recording, I’m quite photogenic. So, I’m very afraid that when I go outside, fans will think how come Hwangbo doesn’t look like what they have seen on TV or in the pictures. Therefore, when I have time, I will like to go work out.

7: I’ve heard that you have Tae kwan do black belt and are car racer.
A: Yes, I was even in the car racing competition before. However, one time on the track, my car was hit in the back and flipped. It’s pretty serious accident. From then on, I don’t dare to race any more. I still got hurt although I fastened my seat belt. Now I still have the racing outfit at home but am too afraid to race again. I only support my seniors. About Tae Kwan do, I started Tae Kwan do since I was little. At first, it was just for fun. When I had time, I entered in the competition until I won the first place and got the black belt since Chakra Debut. Now, what interests me the most is scooter riding. I bought a scooter and when I have time, I will ride it every day. Also because I am a celebrity, when riding scooter, I have to wear helmet and no one will recognize me. I have a lot of fun.

8: In the same time, you are also a fashionista who has an impact on Korea’s teenagers.
A: I like clothes and fashion. When the new collection comes out, I will be the first to go get it (laugh) and if I have a couple pieces of fabric on hand, I will design and make my own clothes. Also, I wear many styles of clothes. I can look very neat on some days while very sexy on the others. Sometimes, I even look very extreme. This is why people think I can dress. I don’t stick with one style. There are teenagers that follow my styles. I remember one time I trimmed my eyebrows in pattern. Then, the kids also followed that. So, their parents had to ask them not to do so since it’s against the school’s rules. I saw them having fun. I feel thankful that they followed me but it’s not always appropriate to follow my styles.

9: You just celebrated your birthday in August. Having 3 in the front, are you serious about your age?
A: I’m not serious. I actually feel good. Reaching 3, there are people giving me complement that I’m much more beautiful. Before, people look at me like a young girl. I gradually grew up and finally I become a woman. Now, when I look at the girls at the age 20, I feel like they are very young. So, I finally understand how adults felt when they looked at me when I was 20, very naughty and daring (laugh).

10: What impressed you the most for the past 10 years in the entertainment industry?
A: I have learned a lot, for example, when I just started my career in the industry, I thought I have to focus on my work only, couldn’t have a boyfriend or love life. Because I did both at the same time, I wouldn’t be able to succeed in either one. I had to choose only one, which was work. Being like that for 5-6 years, I finally know that I can have both at the same time.

11: What do you have to say for the readers of Lisa, which is the magazine for every woman?
A: I want everyone to think positively every day. What you think it’s not possible will become possible and you will be successful in the future. And also think what you will wear tomorrow because it’s a good thing especially for women. I want women to think about beautiful things. I want everyone to have good health and get more and more beautiful each day. I wish we get to meet again in the future and please give Hwangbo lots of love.

  1. Hi, I just found this blog, and I love it! It's so great to have a place devoted just to Hwangbo with all her latest news! (I tried soompi's thread, but I don't like forums... ^^;) So thank you for this blog! :D
And thanks for sharing this really good interview. HB's very thoughtful and gracious and eloquent. ^^ I especially liked her answers to #9 (haha now she thinks these idol girls are too young to be so racy XD) and #10 (i'm glad she learned how to be happy with both parts of her life). It shows she's matured gracefully, which I love her for. <3
